Presentation Title Chatbot-based Virtual Assistant for Museums: A Story of
Abstract

“Nong Nam Dok Mai” is a low-cost, mobile chatbot-based virtual assistant for the Ban Phot Paeosea Museum in Phetchabun Province, home to numerous marine fossils from the Permian age (over 200 million years ago). The museum, including its eight outdoor fossil sites, is operated by the Ban Phot Subdistrict Municipality in collaboration with the local community. Due to the museum's small space filled with an extensive fossil collection, static information boards, limited tour guides, budget constraints, and the distance between fossil sites, visitors are often not engaged.

Since 2022, “Nong Nam Dok Mai,” named after this region's well-known “Nam Dok Mai” mango, has assisted visitors in self-exploration with friendly AI voice messages and AR fossil models for social media engagement. “Nong Nam Dok Mai” plays an important role in promoting the museum and aiding local guides in knowledge revision and information updates. Museum curators can use data collected from mobile interactions for future activities. This talk narrates the successful journey of “Nong Nam Dok Mai” from its inception to implementation, sharing valuable lessons learned that others can apply.
