Presenters will share case studies and strategies that highlight the transformative power of museums in fostering cultural continuity, justice, and social cohesion.

- Going Grassroots: The Engagement of Local Communities in Museum Formation and ManagementMa. Cecilia B. Cabañes
 
   Ma. Cecilia B. Cabañes from the National Museum of the Philippines presents a case study on the newly opened National Museum in Cebu. The presentation highlights how grassroots engagement and community participation have been pivotal in the museum's development, fostering a sense of ownership, pride, and identity among the local community.
 
- How Repatriations Can Reshape the Museum ModelChristine Begley
 
   Christine Begley from Huron|GG+A Global Philanthropy discusses the practicalities and challenges of heritage repatriation. The presentation examines how returned artifacts can inspire and educate local and global communities, generate new creative economies, and lead to museum innovation. It also addresses the ongoing responsibilities of Western museums in the repatriation process.

- Violent Conflict, Indelible Memory, and Possibility for Museum for Peace: Deep South Museum and ArchivesPatporn Phoothong
 
   Patporn Phoothong from the Deep South Museum and Archives explores the potential of museums and archives as tools for justice and peacebuilding in conflict zones. The presentation focuses on the Tak Bai Massacre of 2004 as a case study, highlighting the challenges and successes in amplifying victims' voices and fostering dialogue around human rights violations.

  Biography

    Udomluck Hoontrakul is a lecturer in Archaeology and Museology, Faculty of Sociology and Anthropology, Thammasat University, Thailand. She was trained in field archaeology, museology and social development, and Southeast Asian art history. She has extensive archaeological fieldwork experience in Thailand in particular, focusing on relations between highland and lowland cultures in the late first and early second millennia as evidenced in material culture. Her publications are oriented to the critical dimension of her work in archaeology, cultural heritage, and museology. She is currently the Director of the Thammasat Museum of Anthropology.
