Presentation Title Promoting Scientific Knowledge and Traditional Wisdom among the Elderly
Abstract

The Science Center for Education is a lifelong learning resource committed to promoting science education for people of all ages. Operating under the Department of Learning Encouragement (DOLE) policy, its responsibilities include providing knowledge in science and technology and enhancing science education through exhibitions, educational activities, and various learning media. These cover science, technology, natural science, environmental science, health science, astronomy, and space. The Center also aims to raise awareness and consciousness about science, technology, and the environment in society. The provision of science and technology learning for the elderly is another important focus area that the Science Center for Education has been continuously working on. This effort drives learning to accommodate an aging society, enabling the elderly to become more capable, reduce social burdens, and continue to be a force in national development. To this end, the Science Center for Education has organized a Scientific Innovation Contest project to promote the quality of life for the elderly under the concept of "Science in Thai Wisdom." This project integrates the wisdom of experienced elderly people—passed down through generations and imbued with scientific principles—with modern knowledge. It aims to create innovative scientific inventions that can serve as models, focusing on key factors such as low budget, use of locally available materials, and the ability to be appropriately disseminated in communities and aging societies within their contexts. In implementing this project, the group of Science Centers for Education, along with provincial and district centers under the DOLE, have collaborated in public relations, coordination, and mentoring. They have worked together to develop the project, exchange knowledge, and build understanding to communicate scientific work as if they were one family. This collective effort aims to create scientific innovations that will represent the project in national-level contests.
