Presentation Title Crisis as Opportunity: The Revival of Thammasat Museum of Anthropology after the Flood
Abstract

The 2011 Great Flood was an unexpected disaster and a major crisis for the Thammasat Museum of Anthropology, which operates under the Faculty of Sociology and Anthropology. However, this crisis presented a significant opportunity to renovate the building and conserve museum artifacts. This presentation recounts the lessons learned and experiences from post-flood operations, highlighting the numerous challenges faced and efforts made to overcome various limitations through seeking assistance and building collaborative networks. The museum has simultaneously explored its potential while establishing its identity. It has reviewed its role and core mission as a university museum under the supervision of a faculty that teaches sociology and anthropology. Museum management demands multiple skills, representing a new ambition for the Thammasat University Museum. Its goal is to become a model for museum management standards and operations in various dimensions, including serving as an out-of-classroom learning resource, conducting research for exhibitions, artifact conservation, providing an open space for social issue discussions, and building collaborative networks.
